interaction links ▲▲▲ ☼ ❈ worst servant ever 5/10 would not recommend Archer is a tough situation. Originally, he was her servant from the Fifth Holy Grail War before he severed their contract and double crossed her so their relationship is a bit rocky. They seem to be both avoiding that topic for now. Rin cares deeply about her servant even if she won't admit it up front. Her feelings towards him are really complicated - she wants to hate him but she can't allow herself to do that. Basically both of them just really suck at admitting that they actually tolerate one another. |
Kiritsugu Emiya ✠ unhappymeal interaction links ▲ ◆ Kiritsugu is apparently Archer/Shirou's father that Rin's never met since he, well, died and all. Now she has a chance to actually get to know him and learn more about the man who planted that silly hero idea in Shirou's brain. Yeah. |
Saber ✠ caladvwlch interaction links ▲ ● ★ ☀ Her other servant in the fifth Grail War. However, this Saber is from the past war, as she does not remember her or Shirou Emiya. Even so, Rin still cares about her a lot and is fine with starting over with her. She's trying her best not to spoil the fifth Grail War but SHE KIND OF ALREADY DID THAT. Oh well, it's not like Saber will actually try and change the future, right? |

Hisao Nakai ✠ seventeenpills interaction links ▲ ◆ A pretty average guy, to be honest. While he hasn't bothered her yet, Rin hasn't found anything extraordinary traits in him aside from liking literature. He seems nice enough though but probably someone she could take advantage of if she wanted to. For now, he's just some guy. |
Aoto ✠ manlypassion interaction links ▲ ❈ ☁ Φ An annoying mini Archer. He's really an idiot and Rin doesn't want to waste her time with him. He called her out on wanting to avoid people and then tried to use her words against her! Rude, if you ask Rin. Now she has to go to the next big social gathering just to prove that she can socialize with people instead of hanging around the library all day. He really gives her a headache. |
Senji Kiyomasa ✠ deadcenter interaction links ▲▲ ◆ ☼ While he said she'll scare the town away and complains a lot, Rin doesn't find him threatening. He just seems like one of those tough guys that's a big softie underneath. |
interaction links ▲ ◆ ✦ She doesn't really want to avoid him because she dislikes him, it's just that she doesn't know if she could handle another sister-talk with him. She's a bit envious of him over the fact that he still has his younger sister in his family, unlike Rin who lost Sakura to the Matous. Their conversation about the subject really brought up some memories for Rin and she'd just like to avoid talking about it. Maybe she could get to know him and avoid having those conversation in the future. |

Character Name; Rin Tohsaka
Canon; Fate/stay night (Rin’s wiki page)
Canon Point; Unlimited Blade Works; DAY 15 – Right after the Einzbern castle is burned to the ground
Age; Around 17/18 range
House; Odin – Rin is a genius in a way, and does value education even if she’s not entirely interested in school activities. She’s pretty intelligent in magecraft and overall a star student that always does her work, gets perfect grades, etc. Rin is a pretty gifted learner (though it has taken her some time to actually work a DVD player). She breathes wisdom, you could say, and definetly prefers the old fashion style of learning – through books and such. She is observant of people as well, and can look out for them – as she’s been doing with her younger sister after she was sent away to the Matous.
Power; Fire
Personality;
To a distant classmate or a stranger passing through, one would say that Rin Tohsaka is a quiet and intelligent girl with a slightly enigmatic, cold, and serious aura around her. She is elegant, polite, and most of all, a woman that seems to reek of nobility. She tends to decline requests of getting together with her classmates during the school days, and is rarely seen on the weekends with acquaintances, mainly because she has no time for mundane activities. This is the Rin Tohsaka that is seen throughout the school week, the star student that is too good to be true.
Rin is a person who has layers. In fact, she has three important layers that make her character up.
The first layer is, of course, the façade she puts on at school. The second layer pretty much erases and destroys Rin’s honor student side (as Shirou puts it, anyway). When she’s not being super-star student, there’s a side of Rin that only a few people have seen. This is a competitive, almost cynical side to her. A side that lets sarcastic comments slip through when she’s arguing with someone, and is otherwise a pretty lazy girl. She masks her emotions very well, to the point where people assume she’s always an idol and a good role model at home.
A Tohsaka must always remain elegant because of their high-class nature, proven when Rin decides not to run to school because she was taught to never to do anything of a clumsy nature. This usually involves getting good grades as well, since failure is not much of an option when it comes to this family. Not to mention that they’re a family of magi, great magi in fact, and she doesn’t want to be the one to damage the family name because she could not retain that trait. There is no need to panic when you’re a Tohsaka, she reminds herself daily.
However, seeing as they placed such a trait above anything else, Rin never really experienced too much love from her father. It’s not that he didn’t love her, he just didn’t know how to be a proper father and he left her not as a father but as another magus. Even if her mother was the more loving one out of the two, Rin still took after her father and learned mostly from him since he was her successor, and maybe she learned a bit too much from him. The slight cold trait she gives off to Sakura in the beginning was a small result of her father not fulfilling his role and leading her to believe that the elegance of the family was more important than anything else – including the girl that was once her sister. Now that Sakura was a Matou, Rin tried her best to not get close to her younger sister (however, that would prove to fail since the older Tohsaka was always looking out for her). This could make her elegance a dangerous trait to have.
While she says it’s “not her style”, Rin was not afraid to tell Shinji that she had less of an interest in him than in archery, after he accused her of showing up to the range to see him, adding more to the bold front she puts up in public. Shinji lacks elegance and is an immature child; Rin wants nothing to do with him in the present or in the future considering hanging around him will, in no doubt, damage her name. She has a bark and a bite, which are both obvious even in a façade setting, and will not hesitate to be blunt and bold about certain things if the situation calls for it, such as calling Shirou out on his stupidity and telling Shinji that her interest in him was less than zero. She has no problem declining requests from her fellow classmates, seeing as she isn’t the type of person to get too close to outsiders.
Rin speaks highly of herself, taking pride on her family name, and this comes through especially through the topic of the Holy Grail war. She has little personal interest in the actual Grail itself and only wants to win for her family name because of her competitive edge.
Rin is quite observant. There are things she notices about people that she takes into account, and keeps them fresh in her mind for later use. She’s not a mind reader or someone who can easily read feelings – she’s just someone who picks up on someone’s traits after knowing them for a bit. Shirou Emiya is a good example of this. As she became closer to him, she picks up on some traits and changes that he has gone through during the Holy Grail War. For the most part, she’s pretty playful with him, teasing him with any chance she gets because he shows a reaction every time.
She’s a tactical genius, evidenced through Shirou’s description of her as “the brain of him and Saber.” When the three of them were focusing on tactical movements to defeat Gilgamesh, it causes Shirou and Saber to depend on her because they lack the knowledge and planning capabilities that Rin displays, especially with her knowing more about the war than Shirou. Despite that, she wouldn’t be someone you could call a leader considering she doesn’t have the needed leader-like qualities, such as staying calm all the time and in the beginning she wasn’t exactly as trustworthy as she should have been with her attacking Shirou for Saber.
Yet, behind the prideful attitude and blunt honesty, there is a deep and soft layer to Rin Tohsaka. She’s generally afraid of letting people befriend her because her life is very dangerous. She is a magus, a woman of magecraft, and a master in the Holy Grail War. If an enemy master or servant found someone she holds dear to her heart, they could be put in danger. This is something Rin wishes to avoid because she cares deeply about the few people she’s grown close to despite it looking as if she doesn’t care for others. While it seems she’s self-interested, there are people she’s grown to love and cherish. She has their back in every single way possible.
Sweet compliments make Rin embarrassed and she doesn’t take them well on the outside. She gets flustered and yells at the person to keep quiet and not to say such stupid things, but on the inside she really does appreciate them because of how often she keeps her feelings hidden. The female magus is awful at admitting her true feelings. She’s a basic type-A tsundere – someone who seems pretty angry and bold on the outside but on the inside she’s a soft and caring person who only puts that boldness on her outer personality because of how much trouble she has of admitting what problems and worries are.
Even when she was younger, she had trouble expressing herself. She tried her best not to be weak when her father died, and refused to cry. That was mostly the day she decided to repress her true feelings deep inside her and try to worry about her only. Unfortunately for her, Rin is not as strong as she thinks she is because she grew up wanting to care about people. Her Uncle Kariya was a large influence on her, and even to this day she still thinks about him kindly. Unlike most of the Matous, Kariya was someone who was kind and faithful, a father-like figure to both Rin and Sakura and the two girls came to like him very much during their childhood with him.
No matter what, if Rin grows close to someone, it’s pretty obvious that she cares and looks out for him or her whenever she can. For example, during the prologue of Fate/stay night she revives Shirou from the dead because he is a close friend to her sister, Sakura Matou (and then later, she becomes close to him). Even though she tries not to make much contact with Sakura, she is always looking out for her little sister. She can never bring herself to realize that it wasn’t her fault that Sakura suffered through so much at the Matou household since she hid her own feelings, and thus Rin feels extreme guilt and frustration for not protecting her well enough. Sakura had placed a very strong façade, making Rin believe that she was happy being a Matou when that wasn’t the case. She may have looked out for her, but she could not get close to her, because they weren’t sisters anymore and because she actually believed she was happy.
Rin is extremely close to Shirou, though she hated him for the fact he summoned Saber even though he was a weak magus and someone who didn’t belong in the war in the beginning. She had a strong annoyance with Shirou in the beginning because he wasn’t fit to be a master, yet he had summoned the strongest servant that the Grail could offer. After he declined her offer ti help, she tried to make him hand over his seals but in the end they end up forming an alliance when Rider attacked a student. They agreed to take down her and her master, Shinji Matou. Because of them working together she ends up growing close to Shirou and values him very much and while she probably won’t admit this any time soon, she does have a slight growing interest in him.
Rin and Archer’s relationship is a bit more complex. They have a very sarcastic and teasing relationship. While she didn’t like him at first because of his attitude, they end up making a great team. She felt extreme rage and despair when he betrayed her, but felt even more of that when he was seemingly killed by Gilgamesh and now wishes to kill the golden king for her own personal reasons. She seeks vengeance for her servant and will not stop unless that is achieved. In short, while she holds some hatred for him those feelings are overpowered by the care and love she has for her cynical servant because in some way, he is still Shirou Emiya.
Anyone who is like Shinji Matou will definitely get hate from her. While she may be a bit selfish and bossy, people who are overly selfish, haughty, cruel and have evil intentions like Shinji will probably never get any respect from her unless they change her life in a positive way. This is the same way for Kirei Kotomine, her caretaker and guardian. Even as a child, she never liked him and her distaste for him grew a bit more as she got older especially when he tried to kill her when Archer kidnapped her. He really was only useful for explaining the Grail War to Shirou. As for Lancer, after getting to know him a bit more, she has grown to like him a bit and even admits this to him when he saves and dies for her later on.
Rin may be a great magus, but in the end she is just a normal teenage girl. She’s managed to retain confidence, elegance and a leader-like personality, but the softer sides that the genius magus keeps hidden manage to slip out every now and then and that’s what makes her human.

You’re all fighting a losing war.
[ After fiddling with the bracelet, Rin’s managed to turn it on to the video feed. One could see her sitting in the Odin Library with her legs crossed. ] I really don’t know how you’re all going to win this. With this many people, you should have already won. Are the Gods really that useless? Can they not form a strategy that can make them win the war quicker?
I have something important to do at home, and it cannot wait. No matter what time restriction there is on our world…
[ She needs to avenge Archer. A sigh leaves her lips and she shakes her head. Why does she like helping people so much? ]
This isn’t my war, but I suppose I could lend a hand or two. The sooner we can get home, the better, and if this requires my assistance, then I’ll throw in whatever I can. You need a good tactician obviously. I’d like to speak with those who know how to strategize. Perhaps we can work something out if you don’t slow me down.
As for my own personal use, if there’s anyone from Fuyuki City, I’d appreciate it if you respond. I need to know who has knowledge of what’s going on back home. I’ll be doing research in the library if anyone needs me, but try not to bother me too much. [ For those waiting for her to elaborate, they're out of luck since she doesn't say anything else. Instead, Rin reaches and after fiddling around, she finally turns the feed off without a goodbye of some sort. ]

She had arrived at the school earlier than usual. It was a surprise to her, since she had been so worn out because of the war and yet here she was – bright and early. Not even Shirou came to school with her. The magus had hurried out the door, nodding in Sakura’s directions for a quick greeting when they met at the door. As much as she appreciated his company, Rin needed some time to herself and it seemed like school was the best option.
Besides, she could handle herself and she could always call for Archer.
As usual, she declined to watch the archery club, saying that she needed to do something that would take her up until the first bell, and she had no time to dwell in places she didn’t need to be. A lie; she just wanted to have a quiet place to think.
And so, she sat down at her desk, finishing the math problems she didn’t get to. Apparently, the homework was supposed to be hard but it took the female less than ten minutes to do. Maybe going to school was a mistake, because now she was bored. The education she got, she valued, but who wants to waste their time staying after school and doing sports? It’s not like she needed those things to get into the school she wants.
No, all she needed was her magi skills and she was fine. But what if she didn’t live after the war?
“Haven’t really thought of that…” What was she saying? Of course she was going to live! Well, she needed to focus on herself instead of Shirou all the time, or else she would be dead. But, he needed her too. They needed each other.
The first bell had rung, and students began to pour their way into the room, laughing and chatting about mundane things, things that were deemed boring and useless to the Tohsaka.
And yet, during her slight people watching of her peers, the girl wondered what a normal life was like.
